Stand With Christ

God calls us to change, but what brings about that change? One of the main points that Jesus makes in Matthew 10, as he sends out his disciples, is that in identifying with Him they are not to fear. They are not to fear wicked people who malign their good name, or violent men who may kill their bodies. But where does the courage to live for Christ come from?

Matthew 10:22-33 – “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!

Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.”

Your Only Comfort

This morning we celebrate the wonderful truth that we have been created in the image of God and we have eternal hope and comfort in Christ’s redemption. The denial of the true nature and dignity of man has lead to dehumanization, which has resulted in unthinkable atrocities, including the decision, forty-two year ago, by the U. S. Supreme Court on Roe vs. Wade, legalizing abortion.

2 Timothy 1:12-14 – “For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.”

Wisdom In Time

“Time is a thousand times more precious than money. And when it’s gone it can’t be purchased for money, it can’t be redeemed with silver or gold.” —Jonathan Edwards

Psalm 90 – “Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were born
Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
You turn man back into dust
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it passes by,
Or as a watch in the night.
You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep;
In the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew.
In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew;
Toward evening it fades and withers away.
For we have been consumed by Your anger
And by Your wrath we have been dismayed.
You have placed our iniquities before You,
Our secret sins in the light of Your presence.
For all our days have declined in Your fury;
We have finished our years like a sigh.
As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years,
Or if due to strength, eighty years,
Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow;
For soon it is gone and we fly away.
Who understands the power of Your anger
And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You?
So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”

Ephesians 5 — “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

John 17 — “Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You.”
